2013 Shirley Renner Memorial Scholar: Forrest Evans

Friends and family of Shirley Renner joined Jam4Dan Trustees and gathered on April 11, 2013 at 7 pm at the Celtic Fox. This was a celebration of the life of Shirley Renner and presentation of this special award to Forrest Parker Evans. Jam4Dan Mission Statement - belief in our kids... belief in tomorrow... belief in music... Forrest was named the 2013 Shirley Renner Memorial Scholar, which carried a stipend of $500.
...one engraved crystal for the Renner family, and one for Forrest... 2013 Shirley Renner Memorial Scholar: Forrest Parker Evans The evening began with a welcome and introduction of guests by J.D. Bloomar (Jam4Dan trustee and volunteer coordinator). Some of those in attendance were Forrest and his father Andrew Evans. From the Shirley Renner family - her husband Bill Renner, daughter Penny Renner Claubaugh, nephew Dave Houser, and numerous other friends and family. Also in attendance were Trustees - Tom Krebs, Joel Edison, Ed Carmona, and J.D. Bloomar.
Tom Krebs (Jam4Dan trustee and secretary/treasurer) gave a brief history of Jam4Dan which included a reminder of the events three purposes: 1) Honor Dan Falley, 2) Raise scholarship funds, and 3) Provide Topeka's musicians a unique opportunity to come together to share their love of music. Dave Houser spoke on behalf of the Renner Family highlighting the life of Shirley Renner. She was passionate about friends and music. Many knew her as "Aunt Shirley" because of her outgoing personality, warmth, and sharing of self. Shirley passed away just before the 2013 Jam4Dan event, and supported the effort from its inception. Forrest Evans was then introduced to the gathering. He is a freshman and honor student at Washburn University studying music education. He invited anyone who attends his future events and concerts to please introduce themselves for he wishes to also share in Shirley's love of friends.
He was presented a check for $500.00 and an engraved crystal of remembrance. The Renner family also received an engraved crystal of remembrance. The evening then concluded with those in attendance sharing stories of their memories of Dan, Shirley, and Forrest. This gathering and the building of friendships was enjoyed by all and certainly was a wonderful tribute to the lives of Dan and Shirley. (l. to r.)
